A person in Pakistan needs to earn about Rs. 440,000 a month to join the country’s top 1 percent of earners, according to the latest estimates from the World Inequality Database (WID).

The same data shows that around Rs. 121,000 a month puts a person in the top 10 percent, earning more than 90 percent of Pakistani adults. About Rs. 189,000 a month is enough to enter the top 5 percent.

These figures are based on WID’s 2024 income estimates, expressed in 2025 rates.

WID puts the yearly entry point for the top 10 percent at Rs. 1.46 million, or about Rs. 121,443 a month. For the top 5 percent, it is Rs. 2.26 million a year, or about Rs. 188,511 a month.

The top 1 percent starts at Rs. 5.28 million a year, or roughly Rs. 439,852 a month. To reach the top 0.1 percent, a person needs around Rs. 23.2 million a year, or about Rs. 1.93 million a month.

The thresholds only show where each group begins. Average earnings inside these groups are much higher.

The top 10 percent earn an average of around Rs. 3.63 million a year, or about Rs. 302,000 a month.

The top 1 percent earn an average of Rs. 14.1 million a year, or about Rs. 1.18 million a month. In comparison, the average adult in Pakistan earns about Rs. 70,600 a month.

WID data shows that the top 10 percent receive 42.8 percent of Pakistan’s national income. The top 1 percent alone take 16.7 percent. The bottom half of the population receives just 17.3 percent.

Wealth is even more concentrated. The richest 10 percent own 58.5 percent of all personal wealth, and the top 1 percent hold 24 percent.

ProPakistani reported earlier that the top 10 percent controlled 59 percent of the country’s wealth. A similar WID-based comparison recently showed that the richest 10 percent in India have lower living standards than the poorest people in rich countries.

WID’s figures are based on pre-tax national income per adult.

This includes wages as well as income from business, property, and other assets.

For married couples, WID splits the household’s income equally between the two partners, so the figures are not direct salary benchmarks.

I don’t agree with this report. 121000 is insignificant earning 1 sabzi wala or thela lganay wala is se ziyada earn kr rha hai…
