WSJ: Top commander briefs Trump on Iran options - NHKニュース
The top US commander in the Middle East has reportedly briefed President Donald Trump on military options for Iran. The Wall Street Journal says this could signal that the United States is moving closer to "significant military operations."
The paper said that the head of US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper, met with Trump at the White House on Thursday, quoting US officials and other people with knowledge of the meeting. It noted that Cooper "rarely" briefs Trump in person. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Caine, also attended, along with other Cabinet members.
The US news site Axios later reported that the briefing focused on the ongoing naval blockade against Iran, citing US officials. It said Trump wanted to directly hear from Cooper on whether it was working.
Other US media outlets reported earlier that Vice President JD Vance sent a letter to Iran about resuming ceasefire talks.
