WSJ: Putin proposes US, China, Russia summit on Ukraine - NHKニュース
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a meeting with his US and Chinese counterparts to discuss the Ukraine situation.
The US newspaper quoted multiple sources in reporting on Sunday that Putin suggested holding the talks on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit, which will be held in China in November.
The report said a Russian spokesperson confirmed that discussions were taking place over a potential meeting involving Putin, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
It also cited a senior US official as saying Trump had not agreed to such a summit, but could be receptive to the idea.
The newspaper said Putin's plan represents his attempt to capitalize on his warming ties with Trump as he seeks to negotiate an end to the conflict that would favor Moscow.
It added that such a summit, without the involvement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "would be unprecedented and send alarm bells ringing in European capitals and beyond."
