The Adoor traffic police have booked the mother of a 16-year-old boy and the registered owner of a motorcycle after catching two minors driving a car and riding a motorcycle near Parakkode in Ezhamkulam.

The police had received information that a teenager frequently drove through busy stretches of Adoor town and Kodumon and posted videos of himself at the wheel on social media. Acting on the tip-off, they stepped up inspections in Adoor and nearby areas over the past two days. Around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, they spotted the car near Parakkode-Ezhamkulam and intercepted it. Another teenager from Nedumon was driving the car without a licence, while the 16-year-old arrived shortly afterwards on a motorcycle.

“Videos posted on social media showed the teenagers speeding on busy roads on a motorcycle and manoeuvring through narrow gaps between heavy vehicles. Other clips showed them performing drifts in a car and driving,” a police official said.

The car was registered in the name of a resident of Nedumon in Ezhamkulam. The motorcycle was registered in the name of Raveendran, 65, of Pathanapuram in Kollam.

The police registered cases under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Sections 180, 181 and 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The provisions cover rash driving on public roads, allowing an unauthorised person to drive, offences involving juveniles and driving without a valid licence.

According to the first information report (FIR), the accused allegedly allowed minors to drive the vehicles rashly and negligently on a public road, endangering human life.

Mr. Raveendran told the police that he had sold the motorcycle a few months ago but had not updated its registration details. Officials said action could still be initiated against the person listed on the vehicle’s registration certificate unless he submit documents to establish that the motorcycle had been sold.
