Two interstate drug peddlers were arrested by the EAGLE Force along with Patancheru police for selling marijuana to local labourers near a dairy farm in Kardanoor village, Patancheru, on Saturday (October 31). Police seized 1.150 kg of marijuana worth ₹57,000 from them and apprehended four consumers.
The accused were identified as Sanchit Roy, 50, a labourer at Govind Rao Dairy Farm, and Mahesh Kumar, 32, a security guard at Devi Parking Yard opposite the dairy farm. Both are natives of Patna in Bihar.
According to the police, Roy had been working at the dairy farm for the past three years and earned ₹20,000 a month. Kumar had shifted to Hyderabad around two years ago and had allegedly been assisting Roy in selling marijuana for the past year.
Police said Roy developed the habit of consuming marijuana in Bihar and came into contact with Kishan Singh, a resident of Dhoolpet, who allegedly supplied the drug to him.
Taking advantage of the large number of migrant labourers from Bihar, Assam, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh working in the surrounding areas, Roy allegedly began procuring marijuana from Singh at ₹20,000 per kg. He would divide it into five-gram packets and sell each one for ₹300, with Kumar assisting him.
According to the investigators, over the past year, Roy allegedly became a known peddler among marijuana consumers in the locality, with around 20 to 30 people approaching him daily. The number reportedly increased to 50 to 60 on Sundays.
Acting on specific information, the police raided the dairy farm while Roy and Kumar were selling marijuana and apprehended them along with four consumers. Around 10 other consumers were also identified during the operation.
The alleged supplier, Kishan Singh of Dhoolpet, is absconding and efforts are underway to trace him.
