PYONGYANG, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), attended an opening ceremony on Thursday for an exhibition showcasing the country's latest advances in unmanned aerial technology, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Friday.
A variety of combat systems were on display at the exhibition, including strategic, operational and tactical multipurpose drones, as well as suicide attack drones, said the report.
Following the opening ceremony, a firepower demonstration was held, featuring various tactical suicide attack drones, tactical cruise missiles and multipurpose drones. A 600-mm-caliber multiple rocket launcher, dubbed "Sniper," was fired in public for the first time, it said.
"To aim to seize the absolute superiority in the drone technology is an indispensable option in light of the ever-changing patterns of modern warfare," Kim, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, was quoted as saying in his speech.
Kim reiterated the importance and military significance of developing unmanned aerial technology in building the DPRK's armed forces into an "ultra-modern elite army well-versed in modern warfare," said the report. ■
