There was an unusual rules of golf situation during Friday's Round 2 of the VidantaWorld Mexico Open.

There was an unusual rules of golf situation during Friday's Round 2 of the VidantaWorld Mexico Open.

Tom Kim and defending champ Brian Campbell, playing in the same group for a second day in a row, each hit into the same bunker on the 18th hole.

And each proceeded to hit the wrong ball.

Tom Kim's 6 at the last gave him a 3-under 68 and a 7-under total, putting him into a tie for 22nd. Campbell's final-hole 6 came on the heels of another 6 on the par-5 17th and also left him with a 3-under 68 and a 7-under total.

A real blunder to be sure but it won't be fatal to their chances of making the cut. They each well clear of that.

According to the U.S. Golf Association's Rules of Golf:

In stroke play, you get a two-stroke penalty and must correct your mistake by playing your ball (see Rule 6.3(1)).

Campbell is playing for the first time since the Wyndham Championship in August, where he missed his ninth cut in a stretch of 11 tournaments.

Kim is competing for the first time since he won gold in the Asian Games at the beginning of the month which exempted him from military service in Korea.
