THAI jet returns to Shanghai after cockpit window cracks - Bangkok Post
(Photo: Bangkok Post) A Thai Airways International flight bound for Bangkok returned to Shanghai shortly after departure on Wednesday after pilots discovered a crack in the cockpit windscreen.
Flight TG663 departed Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 8.08am local time aboard a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registration HS-TWA.
According to Thai Airways, the pilots detected a crack on the left side of the cockpit’s front windscreen during the flight and decided to return to the airport of origin in accordance with safety procedures.
The pilot circled and jettisoned fuel in mid-air to reduce the aircraft’s weight before safely landing back at Shanghai airport. No passengers or crew injured were injured.
Thai Airways said on social media that it had arranged accommodation for affected passengers and crew members, while coordinating with partner airlines to transfer passengers to alternative flights.
The airline also announced that it would deploy larger aircraft for flights TG662 and TG663 on Thursday to accommodate the passenger transfers and facilitate travel arrangements.
Passengers affected by the disruption are being assisted with their onward journeys, while the airline is working to minimise further inconvenience.
