The Telangana government on Saturday (October 31) announced the maximum retail price of fine rice varieties which are most consumed by people. The maximum retail price per kg of BPT / KNM variety was fixed at ₹66; RNR / Telangana Sona at ₹74 per and HMT / JSR variety at ₹79, in Hyderabad and Medchal.

Hyderabad’s Chief Rationing Officer issued directions to display the prices on banners in places clearly visible at rice mills, wholesale and retail stores, with company’s name mentioned at the bottom. Similar orders were issued by Medchal district officials. The prices were fixed after discussions with wholesalers and retailers, amid increasing prices of fine rice — which crossed ₹80 per kg in and around the city.

Cautioning that the foodgrains cannot be sold exceeding the maximum retail price, the official said that Civil Supplies officials would keep an eye. Action would be taken against violations.
