Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged government departments, industries, construction agencies and commercial establishments to extensively use treated wastewater for landscaping, construction and industrial requirements to conserve potable water for domestic consumption.
In a message marking the 37th Foundation Day of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the Chief Minister called for proactive measures to protect drinking water sources and ensure sustainable management of water resources in view of the prevailing El Niño weather conditions.
He said the rapid expansion of Hyderabad made water security a priority and stressed the need to reduce the use of potable water for non-domestic purposes. The use of treated wastewater for activities that did not require drinking-quality water would help preserve safe drinking water for essential domestic needs, he said.
Welcoming the launch of the ‘Dial Green Tanker – Green Tanker Operations’ initiative, Mr. Reddy described it as a timely step towards sustainable water management. He urged all stakeholders to make greater use of treated water and extend their cooperation to the initiative.
The Chief Minister extended his greetings to HMWSSB officials, employees and their families on the occasion of the board’s foundation day.
Calling upon citizens and all stakeholders to treat water conservation as a collective responsibility, Mr. Reddy urged them to contribute towards making Hyderabad a sustainable and water-secure city.
