Suspended organised crime officer Sergeant Fannie Nkosi is expected back in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Suspended organised crime officer Sergeant Fannie Nkosi returns to the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, as the State moves to consolidate his two criminal cases ahead of trial.

Nkosi, who has been in custody since his arrest on April 2, 2026, was informed during his previous court appearance that all charges against him had been centralised.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) successfully applied for the cases to be heard together. During the proceedings, the state prosecutor told the court she had a certificate for the centralisation of the charges.

“The matter is ready for trial. We ask that the matter be moved to the Regional Court,” the State submitted.

The first set of charges stems from a police operation on April 2, when a task team linked to the Madlanga Commission executed a search warrant at Nkosi’s home in Pretoria North.

The operation followed intelligence about the alleged illegal possession of ammunition. Police reportedly found firearms, ammunition, a stun grenade, official South African Police Service dockets and other state-issued equipment on the property.

Investigators also found more than R50,000 in cash hidden beneath a mattress. Nkosi allegedly could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the source of the money, leading to his arrest.

He faces charges including fraud, theft and defeating the ends of justice.

In Limpopo, Nkosi is accused of posing as a senior police officer to obtain a docket. After the docket was returned to the police station, significant evidence was allegedly missing or had been tampered with.

He was subsequently charged with fraud, theft and evidence tampering.

Nkosi is also accused of acting as a middleman between alleged crime boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and senior police officers allegedly linked to the underworld.

The suspended sergeant faces multiple additional charges, including unlawful possession of explosives, three counts of failing to safeguard firearms, eight counts of failing to safeguard ammunition, defeating the administration of justice, failure to comply with firearm safe regulations and theft.

The court granted the State’s application to consolidate the matters.

The case was postponed to Wednesday, and will now also be heard in the Pretoria Regional Court.
