High school students in the southwestern Japanese prefecture of Kagoshima have promoted Kirishima City's specialty green tea by offering some to visitors at an airport.

Kokubuchuo High School in Kirishima organized the event, which took place on Tuesday. More than 10 third-year students studying business informatics served tea to people in an arrival hall at Kagoshima Airport.

The school says the students learned how to prepare delicious-tasting green tea from local tea firm employees, and how to serve people hospitably from airline staff.

A man who returned to his hometown from Tokyo with his family said the clear and smooth taste was nostalgic.

One of the students who served tea, Tsuruoka Saki, said she was nervous, but that she had fun sharing the delicious taste of the tea and conveying the spirit of hospitality.

Another student, Tsuchimochi Neiro, noted that it was her first time welcoming people at an airport. She said she learned that she could encourage people to try the tea by smiling.
