Shallcross father allegedly shoots armed robber after son is attacked in home robbery - IOL
Paramedics treated Shaheer Thulsi outside his home before transporting him to hospital.
A Shallcross father allegedly shot and killed an armed robber who shot his son during a robbery at their home in Chiltern Heights in Shallcross.
“It is alleged that two armed robbers, who were reportedly on foot, approached the family property and walked up the driveway towards the tuckshop they operated from their home,” said Sivan Subramodey, owner of Amawele Emergency Services.
He said the son, Shaheer Thulsi saw the suspect going into the tuckshop where his mom was serving at the time.
“The son saw the suspect leaving the tuckshop as he did not have enough money for his purchase.
“The suspect then proceeded towards the family’s home, where he was confronted by Thulsi.
“The suspect allegedly drew a firearm and demanded money from Thulsi,” said Subramodey.
He said after a confrontation, a struggle ensued and the suspect allegedly fired shots at Thulsi.
“Thulsi was shot in his leg. His father, Omesh Thulsi, who was in his vehicle outside the property at the time, then allegedly drew his firearm and shot at the suspect, hitting him multiple times.”
Subramodey said when he arrived at the scene, the suspect was still alive, but he later died at the scene.
Omesh told post.co.za on Monday that Thulsi was heavily medicated and recovering at home.
He said the ordeal had left his family traumatised and they were seeking counselling.
“We appreciate the support and concern shown to our family by members of the community,” he added.
