The Chief Minister recalled Indira Gandhi’s declaration that every drop of her blood should serve to strengthen the nation. Her vision and policies aimed at public welfare continued to guide the country, he said.
Mr. Reddy said Indira Gandhi had demonstrated courage and was decisive even during the most challenging crises. She placed the country’s interests above her own political position and was prepared to risk her life to protect its unity and integrity, he added.
Recalling her contribution to the country’s economic and social transformation, the Chief Minister cited the nationalisation of banks, abolition of privy purses and implementation of the 20-Point Programme as some of her significant initiatives.
He said Indira Gandhi’s policies were aimed at ensuring that the benefits of development reached the poor and marginalised sections. Providing financial security to ordinary people and making the poor active participants in the country’s development were important features of her governance, he added.
Mr. Reddy said the Congress government in Telangana pursued welfare-oriented governance, social justice and the upliftment of the poor by following the principles espoused by Indira Gandhi.
