Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of being indifferent to the plight of farmers facing severe hardships due to inadequate water and electricity supply for agriculture, while finding time to travel to Delhi to run what he termed ‘false propaganda’ and ‘political dramas’ under the guise of ‘vote theft’.
Addressing a public meeting after the party’s foot march from Shantinagar to the Nirmal district headquarters under the leadership of BJP Legislature Party leader A. Maheshwar Reddy, as part of the ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ programme, Mr. Rao called upon party workers to unite and expose attempts by the Congress to ‘destabilise and bring down’ the ‘honest’ Narendra Modi government and ‘weaken democracy’.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that only the citizens of India have the right to elect the Prime Minister, Members of Parliament and MLAs, and not people from ‘Bangladesh or Pakistan’. He alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lacked an understanding of the Election Commission of India’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Mr. Sanjay warned that if the Congress continued with the same type of politics, the Union government might consider implementing a National Register of Citizens (NRC). Mr. Maheshwar Reddy challenged Mr. Revanth Reddy, who had expressed distrust in the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the SIR exercise, to resign as Chief Minister and seek a fresh mandate from the people. He alleged that the Chief Minister had betrayed the people who elected him by ‘carrying money bags’ to Delhi.
Accusing the Congress government of failing to fulfil its promises and six guarantees to the people of Telangana, Mr. Maheshwar Reddy said the administration was more focused on political activities in Delhi than governance. He also alleged the existence of a ‘foreign conspiracy’ behind recent Opposition protests in Delhi, claiming that political developments witnessed in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were being sought to be replicated in India. BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal, along with MPs, MLAs and other party leaders, attended the programme.
