Road repair work on the trumpet interexchange leading to the Alluri Sitarama Raju international airport was taken up on war footing on Friday evening after sections of the road got damaged and reportedly collapsed at certain places due to the impact of ‘Cyclone Arnab’.
The route is important for air travellers, who had raised concerns over the safety of the road and asked GMR authorities to take up repairs immediately.
Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy had reportedly alerted the executives of the group to the damage , pointing out that many VIPs travel the route.
He asked them to verify the reasons for the damage of the road, which happened within three months after the inauguration of the airport.
With pressure from government, the contractors took up repair works temporarily and assured to relay the road shortly.
