“Quantum computing is not merely the next step in computer technology. It is a technology that can bring about a significant transformation in our ability to solve complex problems,” according to Research Officer in the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Central government Jnan Yalla.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Qiskit Fall Fest organised by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in association with IBM on Jnana Sangama in Belagavi on Friday.

“Quantum technology will open up immense opportunities in the fields of healthcare, drug discovery, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, climate change and the development of new material. India is also taking significant steps towards strengthening its research and development capabilities in the field of quantum technology,” he said.

“As engineering students, you should not look at this technology merely as a subject but consider it an opportunity to shape the future. You have the potential to gain global recognition through innovative ideas, a research-oriented mindset and continuous learning,” he told students.

VTU Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar urged students to cultivate curiosity and undertake research with determination.

“Everyone should work together to create something new and shape tomorrow’s technology. We are organising such conferences to introduce students to quantum technology, which is a technology of the future, and to encourage them to study it in depth. Students should make the best use of these opportunities,” he said.

“Quantum computing has the potential to bring about significant changes in future technology. In particular, quantum algorithms offer new opportunities to make artificial intelligence and machine learning processes faster and more efficient,” IBM Engineer A. Janani said.

As part of the programme, students were given opportunities to find solutions to problems through poster presentations and a hackathon.

Several technical sessions were also held. A report on the activities of the Quantum Club was released.

Registrar (Evaluation) U.J. Ujwal, faculty member Harish Bendigeri, VTU Quantum Club Student Chair Karthik Rao and others were present.
