Prime Minister Pays Homage to the King and Queen of Bhutan - Thairath English
The Prime Minister paid a courtesy call on His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen of Bhutan.
On 1 Nov 2026 in Gelephu, Kingdom of Bhutan, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by his wife and delegation, attended the celebration ceremony for the Project 108 stupas, upon invitation from the Bhutanese government. The Prime Minister was the only foreign leader invited to this significant event.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister and his wife welcomed His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck of Bhutan, who arrived at the ceremony site. The event proceeded with celebrations for the construction of the 108 stupas, including performances of the long Dungchen trumpets and the singing of the Bhutanese national anthem.
The Project 108 stupas is a royal initiative by His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the fifth King of Bhutan. It aims to build and enshrine 108 Jangchub Chortens, or Enlightenment Stupas, along the Mao Chhu River near Gelephu, an important area of Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). The ceremony on 1 Nov 2026 coincided with Lhabab Düchen, a significant Vajrayana Buddhist holiday, and the coronation day of the Bhutanese King.
Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister's delegation departed for Paro and planned to continue their journey back to Thailand later that evening (1 Nov 2026).
