Keralam Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph on Sunday said the State was facing a power crisis but expressed confidence that it would be resolved. He also said that the State government was exploring alternative arrangements to meet the demand.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Joseph said the State had been procuring electricity from Himachal Pradesh under an agreement that ended on October 31. “There is a crisis, but we will resolve it. We were procuring electricity from Himachal Pradesh and the agreement was until October 31. We are considering next options,” he said
Mr. Joseph said he had discussed the matter with Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and that steps were being taken to overcome the shortage. He also said that power availability would improve when rainfall increased in North India, which would help the State secure electricity.
Keralam has been witnessing a power shortage amid deficient monsoon rainfall and increased electricity consumption.
