Authorities in Belgium and other European countries are investigating possible cyberattacks that caused temperatures inside supermarkets' freezers and refrigerators to soar.

Supermarket chains and media outlets in Belgium say some stores experienced systems problems on Monday. They say temperatures inside freezers and fridges shot up, spoiling frozen and fresh food.

Similar incidents occurred in Sweden, Luxembourg and elsewhere, with temperatures reportedly rising to 50 degrees Celsius at some stores.

In France last month, systems managing freezers and refrigerators were targeted in a cyberattack. Experts point out that remotely controlled systems are increasing the risk of attacks.
