A 58-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged road rage murder of Shaun Marais in Gqeberha, following a five-day police investigation.
Eastern Cape police have arrested a 58-year-old man in connection with the murder of Shaun Marais, who was stabbed to death, allegedly during a road rage confrontation in Gqeberha last week.
The man was arrested on Thursday following an intensive five-day investigation into the killing of the 56-year-old Marais along Circular Drive in Lorraine on Friday, October 23.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said police have also impounded an SUV believed to be linked to the fatal confrontation for further analysis as investigations continue.
The arrest follows the fatal stabbing of Marais during a suspected road rage incident at approximately 8.27pm on October 23.
According to police, Marais was driving a white Honda Accord when he allegedly became involved in a confrontation with a man driving a blue or silver SUV.
The altercation reportedly escalated into violence when the SUV driver allegedly stabbed Marais.
Despite suffering serious stab wounds, Marais reportedly attempted to drive away from the scene.
"He attempted to drive further, but after a short distance he lost control of his vehicle and bumped into a wall close to the Circular Drive and Henri Botha Street intersection. He passed away on the scene," Beetge said.
He said detectives are continuing their investigation despite the arrest.
The impounded SUV will undergo further analysis as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding Marais's death.
