Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar of his complete support for any endeavour undertaken by the Karnataka government on crucial issues such as water security, while observing that the challenge posed by the drought was immense.
In his five-page letter written to the Chief Minister on the eve of Karnataka Rajyotsava, copies of which were released to the press by the Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday, the Prime Minister particularly urged the Chief Minister to make water conservation a top priority.
In the letter, he extended greetings on the occasion of the State’s formation day. Listing various works undertaken by the Centre for the development of Karnataka, he also referred to areas where the Centre and the State could work together to improve the lives of people.
“As we look towards the future, I believe there are several areas where the Union and State governments can work together to bring about meaningful and lasting change in the lives of our citizens. One such area is water conservation. Together, let us ensure that it remains one of our foremost priorities,” he said.
“Karnataka is blessed with rivers, lakes and traditional water bodies. These invaluable resources must be protected for future generations,” he observed.
In an obvious reference to the severe drought gripping the State, he said: “The challenge posed by drought is also immense, especially in the northern parts of the State. I am aware that this is a subject that is close to your heart as well. Through greater public participation, rejuvenation of water bodies, rainwater harvesting and responsible water management, we can strengthen water security in both rural and urban areas.”
He said: “Similarly, cleanliness, especially in our cities, deserves renewed attention. As Karnataka’s urban centres continue to expand, let us collectively prioritise scientific waste management, sanitation, cleaner public spaces and sustainable urban development.”
He told the Chief Minister: “I am seeing a lot of work being done by the people of Karnataka in this regard. I assure you of my complete support in any such endeavour your government undertakes.”
Showering praise on the people of Karnataka, the Prime Minister said: “The people of Karnataka have come to epitomise enterprise, innovation, intellectual excellence and a spirit of progress. Take any sector of the future, whether information technology, biotechnology, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, research or startups, and you will find Karnataka playing an important role. Karnataka’s talented people have established themselves as global problem-solvers, developing solutions to some of humanity’s most pressing challenges.”
He remarked: “To be able to work for my sisters and brothers of Karnataka is a big honour for me and my government. This is reflected in the support given to Karnataka through various Central government schemes.”
The Prime Minister said: “As we draw inspiration from Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s immortal composition, ‘Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate’, may this occasion bring greater progress, prosperity and opportunities to every person in the State.”
Praising the people of the State, the Prime Minister said, “Karnataka is an extraordinary amalgamation of cultural richness, spiritual wisdom and remarkable achievements. From the grandeur of Mysuru Dasara to the timeless traditions of its villages, the wonderful thing about Karnataka is the manner in which it beautifully preserves its heritage while embracing modernity.”
