The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has taken Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip into custody for questioning over the death of retired Bangladesh Air Force flight lieutenant Tahsif Souri.

The PBI brought Dwip to its Dhaka Metro North office on Thursday night, Police Superintendent Abu Yousuf said on Friday.

He said the PBI was checking information provided by Dwip, including details of the places he and Tahsif had visited together.

Tahsif, said to have filmed the video of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing the country, was found dead in the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat. His body was recovered on Wednesday afternoon.

His father, Enayetul Karim, previously told bdnews24.com that Dwip had called his son on Tuesday evening, asking him to come out. CCTV footage also showed the two leaving Tahsif's home together.

Dwip had earlier said they went to a motorcycle workshop to repair Tahsif's bike before having dinner at Kokrokoo Restaurant in Uttara.

He said they parted ways near the House Building area around midnight, with Tahsif heading in another direction.
