PBA: Converge nears maiden semis after blowing out Rain or Shine in Game 3 - GMA Network
Converge moved on the cusp of history as it pulled off a 105-98 win against Rain or Shine to break the series deadlock in their PBA Season 50 Governors' Cup quarterfinals affair on Tuesday in Cavite.
Juan Gomez de Liaño had another all-around showing of 19 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists while import Cameron Clark churned out 18 markers, five boards, and five dimes as the FiberXers took a crucial 2-1 lead.
Justine Baltazar also came up big with 15 points while Jonnel Policarpio and Calvin Abueva each chipped in 13 points as Converge sent Rain or Shine on the brink of elimination.
Converge has a chance to close out the series on Friday to book the franchise's maiden semifinals appearance since joining the league four years ago.
"Nag-slow break kami nu'ng third quarter so ayaw naming sumabay sa bilis nila. We needed to control our offense and we needed to play defense," Converge head coach Delta Pineda said.
Converge pulled away in the final frame with Clark hitting back-to-back jumpers that sent the FiberXers into a 94-79 lead halfway through the period.
Gomez de Liaño then lit up from deep, first knocking down a triple then burying a four-point shot to give his team a 105-86 cushion with 1:49 to go.
That fourth quarter saw the FiberXers limit Rain or Shine to just 14 points in that fourth behind a 5-of-20 shooting from the field while dropping 23 points of their own to put the game away.
