Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday (November 5, 2026) began discharging his official duties from the newly renovated government bungalow, ‘Pamani Illam’, at the Podhigai Compound on Greenways Road in Chennai.
After assuming office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Vijay had been discharging his official duties from his office in the main block of Fort St. George on weekdays. The Chief Minister had been commuting from his residence at Neelankarai, about 18 kilometres from the Secretariat.
He had also been using his residence at a multi-storeyed building in Pattinapakkam on certain occasions. Meanwhile, steps were underway to shift his office in the Secretariat from the main block to the 10th floor of Namakkal Kavignar Maligai.
On Thursday, Mr. Vijay inspected ‘Pamani Illam’, which had undergone renovation by the Public Works Department (PWD). Official sources said he was present at the camp office for nearly three hours and discharged his official duties from there.
During the course of renovation, Mr. Vijay had inspected the government bungalow on a few occasions. The PWD had recently allotted the bungalow to function as Chief Minister’s camp office after completing the renovation work.
Spread over about 5,000 sq. ft., the camp office has been provided with various facilities. These include meeting rooms where the Chief Minister can hold discussions with Ministers and officials. The premises will also be used to receive dignitaries and visitors on official visits, sources said. The bungalow was previously occupied by former Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu.
