The AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday expressed concern over the previous month’s reported three per cent growth in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in Tamil Nadu, which was much below the national average.
In a post on his social media handle, Mr. Palaniswami referred to the State’s level of inflation which was higher than that of the all-India figure and “diversion” of industrial projects to other States, similar to what was shown in a feature film of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. “How would the GST collections go up unless industry achieved progress, which would, in turn, generate jobs; enable higher growth in Gross Domestic Production and rise in per capita income?” Mr. Palaniswami wondered.
Recalling that the Guidance Tamil Nadu, the nodal agency for investment promotion and single-window facilitation, was established when Jayalalithaa was Chief Minister, the AIADMK leader accused the present TVK-led government of having “ruined” it.
