Over 2,000 Albay residents receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation after Mayon eruption - GMA Network
Over 2,000 residents in Albay received aid from the GMA Kapuso Foundation following the moderately explosive eruption of the Mayon Volcano on October 30.
According to a report on "24 Oras," Thursday, residents from five barangays in Tabaco City received food packs, bread, and drinking water. They were also given a porridge meal.
More than 500 families evacuated from the six-kilometer danger zone as Alert Level 3 was raised over the volcano. Among the evacuees is Alwin Rombales, who had to pause his work on copra production.
"We don't know how long we have to stay here. We can't go home until the Alert Level 3 is lifted," he said in Filipino.
Alert Level 3 means the volcano has an increased tendency towards a hazardous eruption.
The evacuees face the lack of water supply for drinking and daily use. At the moment, the local government unit provides water rations.
"During our meeting with our water district, the concessionaire said we are indirectly affected by the Super El Niño. That's why the supply of water is low," said CDRRMO Tabaco Head Gelacio Molato Jr.
"We found a temporary solution to give supply to the evacuees."
