Officials at the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) of the University of Calicut have claimed that their undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) degree programmes are gaining traction among students.

They point out that this is evident from the enrollment of over 6,000 students in the two admissions sessions held recently. While approximately 1,460 students enrolled in the February 2026 session, as many as 4,500 enrolled in the August 2026 session.

University sources say that the online programmes provide opportunities for people who are unable to participate in traditional learning formats, those who are employed, and those who are facing geographical constraints in pursuing or continuing their higher education. The MBA (Human Resource Management) and B.Com (Honours) programmes, which were launched only during the final phase of the admission process, received a good response from students, they say.

As per the programme-wise data for the August 2026 session, out of the approximately 4,500 students who have enrolled, about 2,450 are in UG programmes, while around 2,050 are in PG programmes. At the UG level, B.A. Sociology (Honours), B.A. History (Honours), and B.Com. (Honours) received a notable response. At the PG level, M.Com. (Finance), M.A. (Arabic Language and Literature), M.A. (Political Science), M.A. (Sociology), M.A. (History), M.A. (Economics), and MBA (Human Resource Management) are popular choices.
