Nvidia chief targeted in alleged spy plot - Semafor
A Chinese businesswoman close to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is suspected of passing intelligence to Beijing, The New York Times reported Thursday, rekindling fears around the security of US industrial secrets amid an intensifying global AI race.
The allegations — which Nvidia dismissed Thursday as “investigated and debunked” — come amid reports that export-restricted Nvidia chips have made their way into Chinese state infrastructure: A tech CEO was arrested this month for allegedly smuggling more than $300 million in Nvidia chips to China.
Concerns of spying have also rattled AI labs. The FBI is considering economic espionage charges against a former Saudi employee of OpenAI. “It’s like drinking out of a firehose,” a lawyer specializing in trade secrets told SF Standard.
