Chief Electoral Officer (Keralam) D. Sajith Babu
The number of polling stations in Keralam has gone up by 216, taking the total number to 30,682, Chief Electoral Officer (Keralam) D. Sajith Babu said on Friday. The Election Commission of India (ECI) had given its approval for the rationalisation of polling stations. Before the exercise, Keralam had 30,471 stations, the same number it had for the 2026 Assembly elections.
While 216 new stations have been formed, five existing ones in Ernakulam district have been merged. Also, 178 polling station buildings/places have been changed.
After the rationalisation, Malappuram continues to have the highest number of polling stations (3,773), followed by Thiruvananthapuram (unchanged at 3,173) and Ernakulam (3,154). Wayanad has the lowest number (717).
The number of voters at each station, availability of amenities, accessibility and geographical peculiarities were taken into account for the exercise. “The new polling stations have been formed, and some of them have been changed based on the criteria prescribed by the ECI and the maximum number of voters allowed in each polling station,” the CEO said.
