Candidates who resort to violence while participating in protests or movements in Uttar Pradesh could be barred from government jobs under a new recruitment policy introduced by the Yogi Adityanath government. The policy also allows provisional appointments before character verification is completed, while making detailed background checks mandatory for sensitive posts. Candidates involved in serious cases will not be eligible for government jobs.

The policy sets out the conditions for character verification and police checks for direct recruitment across government departments and other public bodies in the state.SERIOUS CRIMINAL CASES TO BAR CANDIDATES

Under the new policy, candidates involved in serious offences such as murder, rape, paper leaks, examination malpractice rackets and cyber fraud will not be eligible for government jobs.

The policy also makes it clear that concealing information about criminal cases can lead to the cancellation of an appointment. Candidates will therefore be required to disclose relevant information about their criminal backgrounds during the recruitment process.

The new rules allow candidates to be given provisional appointments even before their character verification is completed. However, detailed character verification and background checks will remain mandatory for appointments to sensitive posts.

This provision distinguishes between provisional appointments pending verification and posts for which a more detailed scrutiny of a candidate's background is compulsory.

Under the policy, police verification will be conducted in candidates' home districts and in districts where they have lived for more than one year during the past five years.

The verification process is intended to cover candidates' residential history as part of the scrutiny carried out during direct recruitment.POLICY COVERS GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS AND LOCAL BODIES

The new recruitment policy will apply to direct recruitment not only in government departments but also in corporations, councils, autonomous bodies, panchayats and local bodies.

With this wider coverage, the rules will govern character verification and eligibility checks for direct recruitment across these institutions in Uttar Pradesh.- Ends
