There was good news for consumers in the form of fuel levy relief when Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana delivered the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) on Wednesday.
However, like the last time a reduction was introduced, the measure is temporary.
The fuel levy will be cut by R3 per litre for diesel and R1.50 per litre for petrol from 4 November until 1 December 2026.
The relief will continue at a lower amount until 5 January 2027, with the diesel levy R1.50 less per litre and the petrol levy R1 less.
Godongwana said these measures will provide R10 billion in support, which will be funded by the return to the National Revenue Fund of the R10bn that was transferred to the Central Energy Fund.
