National Security Secretary Ready to Handle Thai-Myanmar Border Incident, Concerned About Misfired Gunshots Crossing into Thailand  Thairath English

The National Security Secretary stated that the military is prepared to manage the Thai-Myanmar border situation, having sent protest letters to authorities at every level. He confirmed good cooperation and ordered preventive measures, concerned that misaligned gunfire could result in stray bullets crossing into Thai territory.

At 08:45 on 3 Nov 2026 at the Monthathip Conference Center, General Chaipruk Duangpraphat, Secretary of the National Security Council, discussed the border situation. He noted Myanmar's troubled area is Myawaddy District, opposite Mae Sot District, Tak Province. The military has followed protocols, with the National Security Council emphasizing resolutions to local units about necessary actions. The military has prepared to deploy personnel and weapons into the area.

Regarding negotiations and protest letters, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thai military, and National Security Council have already informed Myanmar authorities that such incidents should not occur. The Ministry of Interior has begun addressing damages suffered by affected residents.

Meanwhile, there are measures to communicate with Myanmar authorities and to prepare evacuation plans for at-risk areas to act as quickly as possible if emergencies arise.

When asked about measures if Myanmar authorities fail to comply with the protest letters, General Chaipruk said that General Ukrit Boontanon, the Supreme Commander, invited the Myanmar military attaché, who has promised to take action.

Asked if Myanmar would cooperate, General Chaipruk said they already do, but all units must be cautious because the use of weapons carries risks. Even a slight deviation by a millimeter or degree could cause stray bullets to cross into Thailand. The military has ordered interception measures to prevent this.
