Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has no plans of making himself available for the Indian Premier League (IPL), opting against registering for the upcoming auction. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Amir has decided not to enter the auction pool, keeping himself away from India's premier T20 league despite continuing to explore opportunities in franchise cricket.

Amir confirmed his decision in a message to Cricbuzz from Dubai, making it clear that an IPL stint is not on his immediate agenda. The left-arm pacer has continued to remain active in T20 cricket since stepping away from international cricket, featuring in different franchise competitions.

β€œNo, I’m not [registering for the auction],” Amir told Cricbuzz in a message from Dubai.

The speculation surrounding his possible IPL entry gathered momentum after Amir registered for the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) draft as a UK national. The 34-year-old has been listed in the Platinum category, with Pakistan mentioned as his country of residence.

His British citizenship had raised the possibility of him becoming one of the few former Pakistan internationals to feature in the IPL. However, his latest decision puts an end to the immediate speculation over his participation in the 2027 auction.BRITISH CITIZENSHIP OPENS DOOR FOR AMIR IN FRANCHISE CRICKET

Amir has begun a fresh chapter in his professional career after acquiring British citizenship in May 2026. The left-arm pacer has already featured in the T20 Blast for Nottinghamshire's Notts Outlaws and The Hundred for Trent Rockets, playing as a domestic player rather than occupying an overseas slot.

His registration for the Afghanistan Premier League draft as a UK national marks another step in his journey as a British citizen, potentially opening up opportunities in franchise competitions around the world.

Amir has also confirmed that he will return to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) next year, but as a foreign player. He had previously indicated that he would feature in the 2027 edition in an overseas capacity following his change in citizenship.

The former Pakistan international retired from international cricket in 2024 after representing his country in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is. He was part of Pakistan's 2009 T20 World Cup-winning team and played a key role in the country's Champions Trophy triumph in 2017.

Amir's British citizenship had also drawn comparisons with former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, who represented Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL between 2012 and 2015 after acquiring a British passport. However, Amir has chosen not to pursue an IPL opportunity for now.- Ends
