The Perumbavoor police on Friday arrested a migrant worker for allegedly murdering his three-year-old stepson. Moheswar. C., 27, of Dhemaji in Assam, was arrested a day after he was taken into custody following the death of the toddler.

Police sources said he was arrested after the post-mortem report indicated a head injury as the cause of the child’s death. The police also said they had received statements that the accused used to assault the child.

The boy was taken to the Perumbavoor taluk hospital by the accused on Thursday, saying that he was injured in a fall from the first floor of their house at Chelamattom. The boy succumbed to injuries later in the day while undergoing treatment. However, the man was taken into custody after the police grew suspicious over the nature of the injuries.

The accused has been booked for murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
