Marcos leads ceremonial first flow of gas for Malampaya Phase 4 - GMA Network
BATANGAS CITY — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday led the ceremonial first flow of gas at the Malampaya Onshore Gas Plant in Batangas City.
During his speech, Marcos said this would help Filipino families have reliable energy amid the high oil price and a very strong El Niño phenomenon."Anong ibig sabihin niyo para sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino? Sariling gas, mas maasahang kuryente, mas matatag na enerhiya para sa ating bansa," the President said.(What does this mean for every Filipino family? It means we have our own gas, more reliable electricity, and more resilient energy for our country.)"Maximising the Malampaya gas will contribute to more competitive power rates because we're relying less on imported energy sources whether subject to volatile international energy prices," he added.
Under its First Gas milestone, the Malampaya Phase 4 (MP4) has drilled and tested natural gas from the Malampaya East-1 and Camago-3 wells in Palawan.

Based on initial well-test results, the two wells are expected to extend Malampaya's productivity life by about six years.MP4 also installed subsea infrastructure to connect the two wells to the Malampaya production platform, adding approximately 41.46 billion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas reserves. These reserves is capable of generating approximately 31.46 billion kilowatts-hours of electricity, powering 13.11 million Filipino households in a year.Following the first flow of gas, the integration and ramp-up of the new wells into the exisiting production system will continue over the coming months.
Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto, meanwhile, is hopeful that this will translate to more livelihood. "We are now in phase 4 so palaki pa yan ng palaki," Santos-Recto told the media. "I guess what we need is this kind of energy foreign investors to come in," she said."So, more investors in, definitely more job opportunities and good livelihood for our constituents," she added. —VAL, GMA News
