Unidentified miscreants shot dead a man in Vijayapura on Thursday. The assailants allegedly fired two rounds at Yasin Thakke near Mundewadi Hospital cross. He died on the spot.
Takke had taken his wife to hospital for a check-up. While the couple was leaving the hospital, on a scooter, the miscreants opened fire at close range. One of the bullets struck him in the chest. His wife was not injured.
The police recovered two bullet casings from the spot.
The victim was a resident of Gang Bawadi in Vijayapura. The police suspected that he was allegedly targeted by a group of youth over the use of a DJ music system. A senior officer said that an altercation may have been the motive behind the murder. Further investigation is under way. A case has been registered at the Gandhi Chowk Police Station.
Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi told reporters that he had constituted four teams to trace and apprehend the accused.
