The corruption-related case against former deputy correctional services minister Thabang Makwetla was on Friday postponed until March 19 2027 for the centralisation certificate to be issued and for a high court date.

Makwetla, who is charged with contravening the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act and fraud, appeared before the Johannesburg specialised crimes court on Friday.

The charges emanate from the alleged security upgrade to his home by Bosasa in 2015, valued at about R350,000.

“His repeated failure to disclose this material benefit to parliament over four years violated his legal and ethical duty under the Members of Parliament Code of Ethical Conduct and Disclosure of Members’ Interests,” Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) spokesperson Henry Mamothame said.

During the court appearance, the Idac prosecutor placed it on record that the matter was subjected to the review panel that was assessing all Idac cases, and that the matter was properly authorised and fell within the Idac mandate.

Mamothame said all disclosures were provided to the accused in order to prepare for trial.
