The Madras High Court on Wednesday (November 4, 2026) issued a John Doe order (an injunction issued against unknown individuals and entities) against unauthorised copying, recording, camcording, reproducing, uploading downloading, streaming or hosting of actor Suriya-starrer Tamil movie Scene set to hit the cinema theatres worldwide on Friday (November 6, 2026).

Justice P.B. Balaji granted the interim injunction pursuant to a copyright infringement suit filed by the film production firm Zhagaram Studios LLP through its counsel Vijayan Subramanian. He ordered that the movie should not be unauthorisedly screened on any of the websites, web links or mirror websites with alphanumeric variants in any language whatsoever.

Taking note that the plaintiff firm was the producer as well as distributor of Scene, the judge said: β€œPrima facie, I am satisfied that the applicant has made out a case for grant of interim injunction as prayed for. If the applicant is not protected by way of interim orders, the applicant would suffer irreparable loss and hardships. The balance of convenience is also in favour of the applicant/plaintiff for grant of an interim injunction.”

Passing identical orders in another application filed by the production firm, the judge directed a host of Internet Service Providers spread across the country to block access to the websites that had been listed out by the plaintiff. The plaintiff had said, such blocking would reduce the chances of piracy and illegal re-distribution of the movie either in whole or in parts and also prevent unauthorised mirroring websites as well.

After recording its submissions and considering the fact that the production firm had spent considerable amount of money on producing the film directed by Jithu Madhavan and also starring Nazriya Naseem and Naslen in important roles, the judge said, he had issued such an interim injunction recently even in a similar case filed by Sun TV Network Limited which had produced Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2.

The plaintiff’s counsel told the court that the John Doe respondents were in the habit of unauthorisedly copying portions of the film through illegal recordings and reproducing the audio visual clips, audio-visual songs and even the full cinematographic film in the grey market and also on the internet platforms for fanciful amounts of money.
