The four-day Krishi-Thotagarike Mela, which concluded on Monday, drew over seven lakh farmers and members of the public, according to a report issued by the Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences.

The mela, which began on October 30, attracted about 75,000 visitors on the first day. The number rose to around two lakh on the second day and nearly three lakh on the third day, and about one lakh people visited on the final day, the report said.

Most of the visitors were farmers from Shivamogga and neighbouring districts. Farmers from Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Vijayapura, Koppal, Bagalkot, and Gadag districts also attended.

Organised under the theme ‘Innovative agriculture for drought management’, the mela featured over 600 stalls. The university had set up a special pavilion on drought management, and technical sessions focused on water management and protecting crops during adverse climatic conditions.
