Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that strict action would be taken against those involved in the alleged attack at the Adoor police station a few months ago.
Youth Congress workers, led by Pathanamthitta district panchayat member Sreenadevi Kunjamma and Feni Ninan, was accused of allegedly trespassing into the police station and confronting a person in the lock-up on July 11. The case has come under intense public scrutiny after CCTV footage capturing the tense moments surfaced a few days ago.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Chennithala said the State Police Chief has sought a report from the District Police Chief regarding the incident. Further action would be taken after the report was received and examined. A case has already been registered and one person has been arrested so far.
He said the government would not tolerate the storming of a police station, attempts to free an accused person from police custody or attacks on police personnel, regardless of the political affiliation of those involved. “The law is the same for everyone. Nobody has the right to violate it. Whether it is me or anyone else, no one is above the law,” the Home Minister said.
