Keralam Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Friday (October 30, 2026) visited the family of Jayabalakrishnan who was killed in the Cheranalloor car crash and promised full governmental support to the kin of the victim.
The Chief Minister called on the grieving family at their residence at Chittur. Consoling the family, the Chief Minister said the government will always stand with them. Mr. Satheesan interacted with the kin of Jayabalakrishnan, including his wife and three children.
The family also handed over a written complaint expressing their concerns to the Chief Minister. Jayabalakrishnan’s daughter Bhadra Keerthy told the media that the Chief Minister promised that the government is with them and asked to share with him if they have any concern in future, too.
Mr. Satheesan was accompanied by Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden, Ernakulam MLA T.J. Vinod and Kochi MLA Mohammed Shiyas.
Earlier, the Chief Minister had admitted in the Assembly that there were lapses in the initial probe.
Jayabalakrishnan, 55, of Chittur, was killed in the accident which took place at Container Road in the early hours of Sunday after a luxury car, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old son of a district judge, rammed his scooter from behind. Though the minor boy was let off on station bail initially, the police later charged him with culpable homicide and also booked his father under relevant clauses of the Motor Vehicles Act following protests by the victim’s family.
Four police personnel with the Cheranalloor police were suspended following the family’s protests. Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar was also removed from the post of District Police Chief (Kochi city), though the officer and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Friday claimed that the transfer was not related to the Cheranalloor case.
