The Jana Sena Party is keen to obtain the Deputy Mayor post of the Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation after winning six of the ten contested segments in the city.
In spite of the tough competition within the TDP, JSP is hopeful of securing the coveted post as a reward for its support of a major alliance partner. According to sources, the BJP, which won three divisions, is also in the race for the post.
TDP Vizianagaram Parliamentary wing coordinator Gurana Ayyalu has reportedly sought the post for his wife, Gurana Radhika, who won from the 30th division despite tough competition from the YSRCP, rebels, and independents. Along with Ms. Radhika, he met TDP MLA Aditi Gajapathi Raju in an informal meeting and thanked her for ensuring the victory of the NDA in the crucial civic body elections.
Mr. Ayyalu, who has previously held various positions in the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), has associations with film actor Chiranjeevi and Deputy Chief Minister and JSP President Pawan Kalyan. He reportedly sent a note to the party’s high command, outlining the services rendered to the party over the last few years.
TDP sources indicated that many senior corporators had requested the party high command for the Deputy Mayor post as the party won 35 seats out of 48 contested in the elections. BJP leaders claimed that the saffron party has a significant vote bank, which helped the TDP to win the mayoral post easily in the city. “TDP high command will take a decision after talking to leaders of JSP and BJP,” said a senior leader of the party.
