Jolt to AAP as 2 rebels, ex-MLA join BJP ahead of Punjab polls
Three Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including two sitting MLAs, in Punjab joined the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday. Among them were incumbent legislators Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra and Chetan Singh Jouramajra, who resigned from the ruling party on Sunday, November 1.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who resigned as the MLA of the Amritsar North constituency on Monday, was also set to join the saffron party later in the day.
The trio's departure would come as a major jolt to the AAP, especially just months ahead of the Assembly elections due in Punjab.
BJP spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill described the exits as "just the beginning" for AAP, asserting that a "mega exodus" was impending for the Arvind Kejriwal-led party.
"This is just the beginning of a mega collapse. As they say euphemistically, 'picture abhi baaki hai'," he said in a conversation with India Today.
"Since their symbol is Jhadu, Jhadu ke teele-teele ho rahe hain aur honge aur yeh puri tana bikhrengi 2027 chunav se pehle (Since their symbol is the broom, it is already falling apart, and will continue to do so. The entire party will disintegrate before the 2027 elections)," he added. - Ends
