Joburg mayor Dada Morero can't say how long it will take to fix city's potholes, streetlights - EWN
Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has been unable to give a timeline for when residents can expect a substantial improvement in the city's potholes, streetlights and other municipal services, as the ANC promises to prioritise basic service delivery in the first 100 days after the local government elections.
Morero was speaking to 702 ahead of next week's local government elections, during an interview about the African National Congress's (ANC) plans to address municipal service delivery, finances and infrastructure.
The ANC's manifesto commits its mayors and councillors to repairing streetlights, fixing potholes, stopping water leaks and sewer spills, clearing illegal dumping sites and unblocking stormwater drains within 100 days of taking office.
However, when asked how long it would take to achieve a substantial improvement in Johannesburg, Morero said a proper assessment would be needed before he could provide a timeframe.
"I'd have to give a better scientific report that covers the entire Johannesburg," he said.
