Japanese anime market hits record high in 2025 | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News - NHKニュース
Japan's anime industry's market size reached a record high for the fifth straight year in 2025, driven largely by strong sales overseas.
The Association of Japanese Animations released its annual report on the preliminary survey. The organization consists of animation studios and related businesses.
It says the combined market scale of nine categories, including television, film and streaming, rose about 16 percent from the previous year to a record 4.44 trillion yen, or over 28 billion dollars.
It was the first time that the figure exceeded the 4 trillion yen mark. The rate of growth was also a record.
The domestic market grew 14 percent year-on-year to over 12 billion dollars.
Overseas revenue, which accounts for about 60 percent of the total, climbed 17 percent to more than 16 billion dollars, pushing up the overall market size.
