Iran Declares Americans Have Voted No to War - Thairath English
The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament said that Americans have voiced in the midterm elections that they "do not want war," warning that if the government does not listen to the people, Iran is ready to respond.
On 4 Nov 2026 GMT+7, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Parliament and head of Iran's peace negotiation team, said after Donald Trump's Republican Party lost the midterm elections that Americans have voted "no to war." He warned that if the U.S. government continues to escalate conflicts, Iran is prepared to respond decisively.
"If the U.S. government betrays the people's will to serve money owners and those extorting international money, they will learn that our NO comes with a nightmare," Ghalibaf wrote in a post on X.
Meanwhile, Iranβs Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei expressed disbelief that U.S. policy would change despite the election results, stating in a statement that anyone who thinks the election outcome will reduce U.S. hostility toward Iran is "severely mistaken."
The Republican Party of Trump suffered a decisive defeat in the midterm elections due to public dissatisfaction over the cost of living and the war with Iran, while the Democratic Party gained a majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Donald Trump acknowledged that part of the poor election results were due to the war and rising oil prices but maintained that he does not regret launching attacks on Iran alongside Israel in February. He stated that the war will end "when I say so" and that the U.S. is ready to continue if negotiations fail.
"People agree with what I did with Iran, but they probably donβt want to bear the short-term impact like paying higher oil prices, which I understand," Trump told Fox News.
