Indiana-Minnesota made college football history. Kirk Herbstreit lost his mind - USA Today

"This is entertainment, so we thought we'd put some entertainment value in this game."

Those were Indiana coach Curt Cignetti's words immediately after his Hoosiers escaped with an overtime win over Minnesota that included matching 60-yard field goals in the final minute of the game.

That sequence was something never seen since college football went to Division I football in 1973. No game had featured 60-yard field goals from both teams. Never mind in the same final 20 seconds.

Minnesota looked on its way to an upset win over No. 4 Indiana after kicker Luke Drzewiecki nailed a 60-yard field goal with 19 seconds left. Backup quarterback Grant Wilson threw a 33-yard pass to Charlie Becker with 13 seconds remaining, which set up a 60-yard field goal for Paddy McAteer as time expired, tying the score at 16-16 and sending the game to overtime.

ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler were in Atlanta covering the Georgia-Florida game, which by then any drama had long been put to bed with the Bulldogs' dominant performance.

Herbstreit and Fowler couldn't believe their eyes as they watched the final sequence in Bloomington from their perch in Atlanta.

"He's 1-of-3 with a long of 21?" Herbstreit asked as McAteer set up for his kick. "From 60, to tie it and send it to OT... Oh my god, oh my god. OH! WOW!"

Fowler can be seen slapping his forehead in amazement.

"What is going on? Good for IU that is insane," Herbstreit said.

The Hoosiers would go on to win in overtime as backup quarterback Wilson hit Becker for a 25-yard touchdown pass on the first play of OT, and the Hoosiers defense kept the Golden Gophers out of the end zone to escape with a 23-16 win.
