IND vs KOR Live, ACT semi-final: Rampant India aim to enter 7th final
So, Korea have won the toss and they will keep the right side. This means India will kicking us off in sometime. Can India make it to a third final on the trot?
Big news here for India as Abhishek is back and is in the squad for the game here. He seems to be fit and ready and will aim to score some big goals here in Mohali.
Well its official. Japan are through to the final after a 5-3 shoot-out win over Malaysia. A tough encounter to say the least that went down to the wire. The regulation time ended without a single goal and it all came down to the penalties where the Malaysian #10, Faizal Saari missed his shot.
We met former India forward Gurjant Singh here in Mohali and he had no doubts that India will win the second semi-final. He predicted it to be by a margin of four or five goals. India beat Korea in their last league game by an 8-0 margin.
India's biggest concern at the moment is the fitness of Abhishek. He has a twisted ankle and Indian coach Craig Fulton said it was touch and go with him in the semi-final.
Mohali is ready for a hockey spectacle, and Wednesday promises to be a memorable occasion for the city. International hockey will make its debut at the Olympian Balbir Singh Senior Hockey Stadium as India take on Korea in the semi-finals of the Asian Champions Trophy on November 4.
There is plenty at stake for the hosts. India are just two wins away from lifting another title and will be looking to extend their record of reaching the final to seven appearances. But before thinking about the trophy, Craig Fulton's men must navigate a tricky Korean challenge and book their place in the summit clash.
The other semi-final will feature Malaysia and Japan, with both sides eyeing a shot at the title. Wednesday's schedule will begin with Bangladesh and China facing off in the fifth-sixth place playoff before the focus shifts to the two high-stakes encounters.
For Mohali, however, the significance of the day goes beyond the results. The city has a rich sporting culture, but hosting an international hockey fixture for the first time gives the occasion a different flavour. The excitement has been building ahead of the knockout stage, with local fans now getting an opportunity to experience top-level international hockey on their doorstep.
India will certainly hope that the enthusiasm carries over from Jalandhar. The league stage witnessed encouraging crowds, with the hosts giving their supporters plenty to cheer about through a series of dominant performances. They will need that backing once again as the competition enters its decisive phase.
Korea, meanwhile, present an interesting challenge. They are a side going through a transition, but India cannot afford to take them lightly with a place in the final on the line. For the hosts, the mission is simple: make Mohali's international hockey debut a memorable one by taking another step towards the title.
