Harry Kane paraded the Ballon d’Or, but then missed a second-half penalty and hit the post, as Bayern Munich drew 2-2 with rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga in his first match since Monday’s award ceremony.

The England captain scored 73 goals in 64 appearances for club and country last season and became Bayern’s first Ballon d’Or winner since 1981 when he was crowned the world’s best player in London.

Kane was applauded onto the pitch by both teams as Bayern hosted Germany’s Der Klassiker, while the anthem Land of Hope and Glory was played to the fans in Munich’s Allianz Arena.

Kane was joined on the pitch pre-match by his wife, Katie Goodland, as well as their four children. He was the final player to emerge onto the pitch and carried the trophy with him before speaking to the crowd.

“Hi everyone, I just wanted to say I’m extremely proud to be a FC Bayern Munich player,” Kane told the crowd. “The support you have shown me since I arrived has been incredible.”

Kane was an unused substitute in the 6-1 German Cup second-round demolition of Magdeburg on Wednesday before missing from the spot with Bayern 1-0 up. He also hit the post, one of four times Bayern hit the woodwork.

Fabio Silva snatched the equaliser in the 89th minute to leave both teams on 18 points, with Bayern top on goal difference. In a rollercoaster first half Bayern hit the woodwork through Michael Olise ‌and missed a golden chance for Ismael ‌Saibari, who was injured in the process, before the visitors had a goal overruled by VAR.

Bayern, also hit by injuries to Serge Gnabry and Olise, struck in the 38th thanks through Konrad Laimer's goal on the rebound, after his first effort was blocked by Dortmund's Gregor Kobel. With Bayern coach Vincent Kompany recovering after his collapse last week, Bayern's full back Laimer was more threatening than Kane, who sent his 56th minute spot-kick against ‌the crossbar.

Dortmund scored through Serhou Guirassy on the hour mark but their joy only lasted six minutes as Dayot Upamecano tapped in `a Kane assist from close range. Kane's low shot bounced off the post before Silva bagged the equaliser. Bayern's Lennart Karl still ‌had time to see his shot in stoppage ‌time bounce off the crossbar and cap a frustrating day for the champions.

Kane not only become the first English player to win the Ballon d’Or since 2001 when he beaten Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal to the award, but also the first Bundesliga player since 1996 to win the prize. Last season Kane scored 36 Bundesliga goals, despite starting only 25 games, and scored in every round of the German Cup, including a hat-trick in the final, as Bayern won the double.
